Getcha Lucky Dogs on Thursday at LRMA
The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art will host Jerry Strahan, the world’s foremost authority on the iconic New Orleans hot dog cart, for a discussion and signing of his book “Lucky Dogs: From Bourbon Street to Beijing and Beyond” on Thursday, April 27 at 5:30 p.m.
The book is an insider’s account of Lucky Dogs and its role in the French Quarter and the world. The Museum will serve Lucky Dogs beginning at 5:00 p.m. prior to Strahan’s talk, and the public is invited.
Born in Laurel and raised in Metairie, Strahan has been general manager of Lucky Dogs, Inc. since 1976. In his book, Strahan recounts the wild adventures of the Bourbon Street salesmen but also takes readers well beyond New Orleans. In fact, he takes them halfway around the world, where this unique pushcart business maneuvered its way through the bureaucratic red tape of a communist country to become a licensed corporation in the People’s Republic of China.
His presentation mixes business and history, autobiography, survival story, and an insider’s look at the bizarre lives of some of Bourbon Street’s most quirky characters—the dauntless Lucky Dog vendors. Both humorous and tragic, though it may read like fiction, it is, for better or worse, all fact. Strahan is also the author of “Andrew Jackson Higgins and the Boats that Won World War II.”
