Lauren Rogers Museum of Art will present artTalk featuring Jim Kelley.
Jim Kelley is a local historian who worked for nearly 20 years as an instructor and administrator for Jones County Junior College. He first began working for filmmaker Gary Ross in 2006, researching the story of Newton Knight for a screenplay and has recently worked as a consultant on the set of the motion picture "The Free State Jones" starring Matthew McConaughey. He is currently co-editing a primary source reader, an annotated bibliography with Harvard Historian John Stauffer, which will be released with the movie, and writing a dissertation on the Civil War Era in Mississippi's Piney Woods. Kelley will discuss the development and filming of the upcoming movie "The Free State of Jones" as well as the legend of Newt Knight.
artTalk, sponsored by West Quality Food Services, Inc., is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring their lunch - desserts and beverages will be provided.
